Maternity sessions at Cast in Colour are relaxed and natural. In addition to featuring you and your beautiful bump, it’s always lovely to include your partner/spouse in the shoot. We’re here to capture memories and a beautiful keepsake of this stage in your life. The love, anticipation, excitement and joy. The emotions are at the centre of the shoot – squeeze your partners hand, laugh together, we’re here to capture the genuine moments that tell your story.
Maternity sessions generally take place at around 30-35 weeks, but can be done whenever you’re comfortable. We can shoot a ethereal style shoot out in nature, or a personal shoot around your suburb and at your home. WHEN SHOULD WE SCHEDULE OUR MATERNITY SESSION?
It’s great to get in contact with us early on to secure a booking. Weekdays and weekends are available. Maternity sessions are best photographed at around 30 to 35 weeks of your pregnancy. Some women have a bigger bump early on, while others need to wait until they are showing more- it’s really up to you and how you feel.
WHAT TIME OF DAY IS BEST FOR GREAT LIGHT?
Outdoor location shoots are best scheduled for later in the afternoon, so we can capture that beautiful afternoon light. Generally most of sessions are shot after 3pm, with the most beautiful light being at sunset. Urban CBD shoots are best suited to early morning on the weekend before the hustle and bustle begins!
WHERE SHOULD WE HAVE OUR SESSION?
I have a number of favourite urban spots to shoot near to the CBD – from laneways, rooftops to gardens. Couples who would prefer something in a more natural setting, I know of some gorgeous places within 30 minutes of the CBD for lakes, beaches and fields. For more remote backdrops we can chat about a more unique location. We charge a small travel fee for locations further than 45 minutes from the CBD.
We also love planning a totally personal and unique shoot tailored to a couple. We could shoot at your home, your local park or somewhere else special to you. Just let us know a little about you and we can create tailored options.
DO WE NEED OUR OWN TRANSPORT?
Yes, we ask that you have your own transport to and from the location. There are a number of great locations we like to shoot at easily accessible by train/tram.
WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR?
- Firstly, bring a few outfit options to add a variety to the session. Maternity session are best suited to Maternity dresses (either a fitted dress to show off your bump, or something flowy that drapes). We can shoot some bare belly shots if you would like to, just let us know and we can discuss your vision.
- We recommend coordinating outfits with your partner using 3 or fewer complimentary colours. Complementary colours always look fantastic in shoots, and are a better choice than overly matching outfits.
- Make sure your outfits are the same level of formal/casual.
- If you choose to wear a pattern, have only one of you wear a pattern at a time. Avoid thin, close together stripes or checkers, they don’t register well in photographs.
- Make sure the outfits you’ve chosen make sense with the vibe of the location. For example, a bohemian, flowy dress may not make as much sense in a graffiti laneway as it would in a field at sunset.
More importantly though, wear what you want! It is your shoot so wear whatever you feel happy in or most comfortable in.
WILL YOU BE HELPING US WITH POSING?
Definitely. Firstly we’ll talk and get to know one another, we’ll warm into it by taking some practice shots while chatting to get used to the click of the camera. I’ll then being to gently guide you into natural poses, mixed in with asking you to talk to one another and interact normally. We want to capture those relaxed and real portraits, whilst still making sure you look comfortable and natural. I’ll help as much as is needed, from how to stand to what to do with your hands.
CAN WE INCLUDE OUR PET?
Yes! We love working with fur babies (or scale and feather babies too!). Let us know beforehand so we can be prepared. Martin will always be on hand to babysit if we’re in a park and for when we’d like to get some pictures of just you two. We’ve worked with pups before and it’s always so much fun!
WHEN WILL WE RECEIVE THE PHOTOGRAPHS?
We will send you a few sneak peek images within a week of your shoot, so you can see how it went! The whole set will be sent to you in a link to your own online gallery within 4 weeks after the shoot. From there you will be able to download all your edited images.
ARE PRINTS INCLUDED?
The packages do not include any prints. This is because we want to keep our prices as low as possible and we don’t ever pressure customers into buying prints through us. The High Resolution digital files you receive can be taken to any printer you choose and can be shared online with family and friends. Please keep in mind printing from K-Mart of Officeworks may not give the high quality results you are after.
We have recently partnered with one of Australia’s top printing companies who work exclusively with photographers. If you would like to place an order for prints at an additional price this can be done through your private online gallery.
HOW IS PAYMENT MADE?
We ask for a $100 deposit to be paid via bank transfer or PayPal upon the time of booking your shoot. This allows us to secure the day and not take any other bookings for that day. The remaining balance can be paid 7 days prior to the shoot via bank transfer or PayPal.
